A Movie Review

 

It was given 4-1/2 stars. That is about right. 

A great story about a man who just won't let go of his ex-wife who left him for another man, who in turns contemplates whether she made the right decision. Love it. I love when people realize that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. 

Definitely a tear jerker, I cried - A LOT. 

But this was definitely my kind of movie - happy ending!!!!!! That's all I will say as I don't want to give too much away. Highly recommended by me.

We're The Millers - rated R

Sorry I was wrong. The movie was rated R. So my bad on that one. I thought it was PG-13 and as I was watching I was amazed that this would pass for PG-13 - but again, I was wrong, and it is rated accurately at R. Too bad they didn't have rating such as R-18 or R-21 or R-not suitable really for anyone. But it was a a relief to know that this movie isn't what would pass for PG-13. I am sure one day this stuff will be considered suitable for our younger viewers, but thank the Lord that today is not the day. I just wish I knew that beforehand as I let my 9 year old watch it. Again, me bad.

What's it all About:  After being robbed of a week's take, small-time pot dealer David is forced by his boss to go to Mexico to pick up a load of marijuana. In order to improve his odds of making it past the border, David asks the broke stripper Rose and two local teenagers to join him and pretend they're on a family holiday. Like I said, it was very funny. My husband and I laughed at one spot and we couldn't stop laughing for a whole 10 minutes. We even laughed about it after. Thankfully my son didn't "get it". Raunchy and distasteful in so many ways, you get a little bit of drugs, you get a goofy virgin, a stripper who of course couldn't keep her clothes on during the whole movie, and a runaway girl. A lot of swearing, an almost swinging thing going on at one point. I think this movie hit a little on all the wrong things that is happening in this world today. Definitely not made for the faint of hearts. 

On the up side, she didn't completely undress. Now a days you can walk around in your panties and think nothing of it. Too bad for that. Leave nothing to the imagination. And we ask what is wrong with society today. Hum???? You also don't see them partaking in the drugs themselves, nor are there any real "sex" scenes. Pretty sad when this is part of the good part. 

But, like I said, I enjoy movies and I would recommend this one, but again, make sure you know what your getting yourself into, don't watch with children present, and get ready to laugh at some pretty raunchy, distasteful things.

Olympus Has Fallen - Review

Well now, Olympus Has Fallen ***** - that's 5 stars by the way (5 out of 5 just in case you thought it was 5 out of 10 or something)

All I can say is this is a must see.

I was on the edge of my seat, googling over someone HOT (sorry, I know I am not suppose to do that),

major suspense, action, bad guys, good guys, and of course, Morgan Freeman, what more can I say.

My son has been begging me to watch this and I refused to pay for it. I hate to pay for movies as I find that I am mostly disappointed in them and it really stinks to pay $20 (store bought) or even $5 (pay per view) for something that I didn't even like. So, I have been renting from the library and when we checked there, they said it was on hold and we could reserve it. So, we put it on reserve (there were 158 holds on the movie so I knew it would be a while).

Well the other day I was looking through my son's Netflix files, and there it was. Wahlah (yup, I used this word again) and we were watching it within 5 minutes. Of course I was interrupted at the beginning because my daughter decided she didn't like all the action so she thought it was a good time to go to bed. And, would anyone pause it for me? That of course is a big FAT no.

But at the end of the movie, I thought it so good, I would have easily paid $20 for it. A little predictable, (I said 2 - and it stopped at 3), but definitely worth a 5* rating.

Disclosure:  Again, this is my view point. Which may or may not say much, but this in no way reflects any other's views (except Jake, my son, he liked it too).

World War Z

WORLD WAR Z  - Rated PG-13

So, my son has been bugging me to watch this for a while and since we were only able to buy it rather than rent it on Verizon Demand, it was easy for me to say NO.  I do not like to buy movies for the full price. I usually only watch a movie once, and it is just not worth it. I would rather wait until it comes out in the library. But my son really wanted to watch this and so upon looking around online and came up with this great site to download movies anytime, anywhere for a great monthly fee, IMoviesClub


So I bought a 2 year subscription. I am such a movie buff so I know for this price, I will definitely get my monies worth. And it made my son happy (which I like to do on occasion).

I should really look into movies before we all sit down to start to watch them, as shortly into the movie my son informed me that it involved zombies. Now mind you, he wanted to watch it, but this gives him nightmares and not something I really allow him to watch. But since I did not take the time to investigate the movie before hand, I felt this to be my mistake and onward it goes. And thinking that PG13 can't be that bad right? (he is only 9 though). But, call me a bad mother.

A little bit about the movie:

First of all, it has Brad Pitt in it. Used to be a big fan, but not my favorite ever since he married Angelina Joli. Don't ask why, probably because I hate when people idolize not very good role models and I didn't feel her to be a good role model for our young children. I think she has tried to reform her self image, but I still see the old. Please don't get me wrong, I know people can change, but sometimes it is hard to get certain thoughts and images out of your head. But anyway, Brad Pitt is a good actor, and she wasn't in it, so - why not.

About the movie:  United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself.

Some gave this a rating of 7.1, or 4 stars. Some liked it, some not. I would give it a 4 Star myself. Not totally loving it, but definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. 

And the best thing about IMoviesClub is that I can download a movie on my phone. You know for when you want your kids to be quiet in a meeting, or just chatting with a friend, and this really is a time to download a movie so you know that at least you get 1-1/2 hours of a little piece and quiet.  Not that I am a big advocate for pushing my kids in front of a TV, but there are times when they are just not cooperating, and you really need them to. So yeah, I do do this occasionally. And once you download the movie - it is yours, forever!!!!! How cool is that.

Parental Guidance

I usually give movie reviews on Facebook and someone said that I should have a movie review blog. I thought what a good idea - how come I didn't think of that myself. My head isn't on too tight most of the time. Anyway, here I am. I watch a lot of movies. I am not a fan of TV all that much. I have a few shows I watch but I usually On Demand them through cable and watch while I run on the treadmill. And actually I don't watch them during the week specifically for this reason.

Now mind you, this is only my view on the movie, so keep that in mind. I am not Siskel and Ebert - but being a fan of movies, I like to think I have some experience on the subject.

We were going to watch the movie about the tsunami which I think would have been a better dollar spent, but Jake, my son, wanted to watch Parental Guidance. This was based on a preview he had seen with the little kid hitting the grandpa in the you know what which he thought was hilarious. So Parental Guidance it was.

Review:  ** (2 stars - out of 5)

Cons:  I was expecting a lot more funniness out of Bette Midler and Billy Crystal. Really who could go wrong with having those two in a movie? Apparently it can happen. It was more to do with family drama, parent/child relationship, sappy, boo hoo. You know the one, where the child cannot get over what the parents did when she was growing up, who thinks the grandparents cannot possibly take care of her kids without them needing extensive psychotherapy afterwards. Like that could happen in a couple of days. The mom was doing a great job of that herself, she doesn't need her parents to do it for her.

Pros:  Yes there are pros. It was a good, wholesome, family kind of movie. No sex, drugs, rock and roll. No swearing either (from what I can remember). Rated PG. There were a few funny aspects, but all of those parts you can watch in the TV preview/ad. But definitely a movie you can sit down with your whole family and eat popcorn with. I  did, however, cry at one point, but this remark probably should have gone in the con section.

Sum up:  I did not watch the movie to cry. It was suppose to be a comedy. I wanted to laugh hysterically, but that just did not happen. At one point I found myself laughing just because I thought I should be. I just wish I knew what I was getting myself into. So don't get your hopes up and you should be fine and will probably enjoy the movie.
